La riparazione dei profili in metallo delle finestre di uno yacht catamarano da 58 milioni di Dollari
Un caso di questo tipo si è verificato dopo la realizzazione della struttura di uno yacht di lusso (progettato da un top produttore di auto sportive), a causa di un improvviso cambiamento di idea riguardo al tipo di vetro scelto per le finestre. I profili delle finestre non erano più compatibili con lo spessore del vetro. Il minor spessore del vetro richiedeva uno spessore maggiore del profilo metallico della finestra. Un materiale dovrebbe essere in grado di essere costruito con uno spessore di 1 – 1,5 cm (0,39 – 0,59 pollici) su telai verticali.
Questo tipo di errore non sarebbe stato chiaramente accettabile per un progetto così importante e prestigioso. Era quindi molto importante che il problema fosse risolto con precisione e nel minor tempo possibile per evitare ritardi nella consegna.
Il problema
La risoluzione
La ricostruzione in metallo doveva essere incluso nel progetto del catamarano di 41,1 m di lunghezza. L’imbarcazione da 58 milioni di dollari dispone di 472 metri quadrati di spazio interno, in grado di ospitare 10 passeggeri e 10 membri dell’equipaggio. C’erano 2 principali zone interessate dall’intervento. Uno era lungo 148 metri lineari con una larghezza di 5 cm. L’altro misurava 68 metri e una larghezza di 10 cm.
Era necessaria una soluzione che fosse in grado di costruire superfici verticali allo spessore richiesto senza cedimenti.
Sono stati presi in considerazione i tradizionali metodi di riparazione mediante saldatura, ma potevano potenzialmente danneggiare gli arredi in legno e gli interni vicino alle finestre, oltre ad essere molto costosi. Allo stesso tempo erano in corso anche altri lavori sullo yacht, il che significava che si doveva prendere in considerazione anche la mancanza di spazio. Pertanto la natura della saldatura non sarebbe stata adatta.
Il cliente si è indirizzato verso opzioni di ricostruzione del metallo applicate a freddo. Sono stati presi in considerazione materiali di diversi produttori e la decisione è stata presa in base alla resistenza al cedimento, poiché alcune superfici verticali dovevano essere costruite fino a 2,5 cm.
Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal), un composito di riparazione durevole multiuso, è stato selezionato per la ricostruzione del metallo. Questro prodotto avrebbe permesso l’uso di stampi, essendo un materiale epossidico al 100% solido.
A causa dell’ampia scala della ricostruzione (circa 300 kg di Belzona 1121), una vita lavorativa prolungata del materiale è stata di grande beneficio. Una vita lavorativa di 35 minuti a 25 ˚ C / 77 ˚F ha assicurato che il materiale potesse essere lavorato con gli stampi alle misure precise senza allungare il tempo.
L'applicazione
Le superfici dei profili delle finestre sono state inizialmente preparate utilizzando uno strumento manuale. Come accennato in precedenza, per l’allineamento delle finestre era necessario creare sagome misurate con precisione. I formatori di legno sono stati tagliati con Belzona 9411 (agente distaccante) applicato per la successiva rimozione una volta che il materiale si era indurito.
Belzona 1121 è stato applicato sulla superficie della formatura per una finitura liscia. Quindi si è costruito il materiale per ottenere il corretto spessore.
La fomatura con il materiale è stato poi applicato direttamente alla superficie dei profili della finestra e pressato con fascette per garantire la migliore finitura possibile.
Una volta induriti, i formatori sono stati quindi rimossi e leggermente abrasi per una finitura ottimale.
È stato possibile ottenere le dimensioni e la geometria esatte dei profili finestra necessari, che era la parte fondamentale dell’applicazione, consentendo il montaggio del vetro della finestra. L’applicazione è stata completata entro il termine stabilito.
Questo esempio importante illustra un problema molto comune in un’ampia gamma di settori.
Le soluzioni Belzona per la ricostruzione dei metalli sono facili da applicare, non richiedono lavori a caldo e riducono drasticamente i tempi di fermo. La ricostruzione di componenti mediante stampi rende più semplice il ripristino senza imprecisioni, ad esempio per la riparazione di un albero.

Belzona 3111 a prova di uragano: superati i rigorosi test in USA per la certificazione Miami-Dade.
Belzona 3111 è un rivestimento per tetti acrilico a base liquida monocomponente, progettato per l’impermeabilizzazione di tetti in calcestruzzo, acciaio, bitume e feltro e vari elementi di copertura (lucernari, barre di vetro, grondaie, giunti e giunture, parapetti). Il rivestimento crea una finitura senza cuciture offerta nei colori grigio chiaro e bianco per proteggere il substrato da alti livelli di assorbimento di calore. Il suo basso impatto olfattivo consente l’applicazione durante l’orario di lavoro con interruzioni minime del processo operativo della struttura. Il rivestimento è destinato alle applicazioni su tetti di strutture commerciali e industriali.
Belzona 3111 ha recentemente dimostrato di possedere numerosi requisiti di test ai sensi della ASTM D-6083, uno specifico standard per il rivestimento acrilico applicato a liquido e utilizzato nelle coperture. Questo risultato ha consentito a Belzona 3111 di essere approvato dalla Miami-Dade County RER – Product Control Section.
Negli Stati uniti, Belzona 3111 è stato progettato per essere conforme al Florida Building Code, che sottopone i prodotti a stress test importanti, incluso quello per la certificazione anti-uragano High Velocity Hurricane Zone del Florida Building Code. L’applicazione è stata eseguita a Miami in conformità alle schede tecniche del sistema Belzona RPA-1 e RPA-8. Florida. La stagione delle piogge stava per iniziare e questo tetto aveva diverse perdite e aree deteriorate che potevano diventare problematiche.
La superficie è stata pulita tramite lavaggio a pressione. Belzona 3911 è stato applicato con un pennello come primer sull’intero tetto e Belzona 3921 è stato applicato su ogni substrato metallico. Belzona 3111 è stato applicato a spruzzo sulle superfici orizzontali e il pennello è stato applicato su giunture e forme più complesse. La lastra Belzona 9311 è stata inoltre applicata ad aree problematiche come giunti, giunture e barre per vetri come rinforzo aggiuntivo.
Belzona 3111 è stato scelto rispetto ad altre soluzioni alternative per la conformità al rigoroso standard ASTM D6083.
